Big Ten West Division Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – The Big Ten West Division has two clear frontrunners to claim the title in 2014. Which team will emerge as the champions?
This is the first year the Big Ten has an East and West Division, as the conference expanded to 14 teams this year. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Wisconsin is favored to win the West, as it has 6/5 odds. Other short odds to win are Nebraska (3/2) and Iowa (5/1).
Wisconsin has had the most recent success of any team in the West, claiming the Big Ten title in 2012 and 2011. The Badgers were 9-4 last season and 6-2 in the Big Ten. Wisconsin has just eight starters back this season, but a stud running back in Melvin Gordon, who rushed for 1,609 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago.
Nebraska went 9-4 last season and 5-3 in the Big Ten. Head coach Bo Pelini was somewhat on the hot seat, but faces a big challenge this year with only three starters back on offense. The team will rely on running back Ameer Abdullah, who rushed for 1,690 yards and nine scores in 2013.
Iowa is coming off an 8-5 season in 2013 where it went 5-3 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes have 11 starters back this upcoming season, led by quarterback Jake Rudock, who threw for 2,383 yards and 18 touchdowns.
