According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Boise State has been given 100/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Broncos have also been given odds of +150 to win the Mountain West Conference and their over/under for wins in 2013 have been set at 9.5.

Chris Petersen is in his eighth season with the Broncos and he has a record of 84-8 while with the Broncos. Boise State has won at least 11 games the last five seasons and is coming off an 11-2 record in 2012. This year’s team only returns 10 starters from the 2012 squad.

Offensively, Boise State brings back five starters. The team will be led by senior quarterback Joe Southwick, who threw for 2,730 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2012. Southwick got better as the season went on and should help the Broncos get back to being an explosive offense this year. The Broncos also have their top two receivers back from last season, but need to replace running back D.J. Harper, who rushed for 1,137 yards last season.

On defense, Boise State was very strong. The Broncos allowed just 15.8 points and 316 yards per game in 2012. The unit loses seven starters, but does bring back junior defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who had a team-high 9.5 sacks in 2012. Boise State also returns both starting safeties, but will have to replace all starting linebackers and cornerbacks.

When it comes to wins, Boise State is always in a prime position to contend for 10 wins. It has become a program expectation. Boise State opens the season at Washington in its toughest non-conference game outside of a trip to rival BYU midseason. The Broncos will also have to travel to San Diego State and Fresno State, but Boise gets the luxury of hosting Nevada. With a Mountain West Championship Game taking place this year, it gives the Broncos an added chance at getting to 10 wins.
