Auburn Tigers Season Odds
(TheSpread) – A few years removed from a national championship, Auburn now finds itself starting from scratch in 2013. Will it be a quick turnaround for the Tigers?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Auburn has been given 150/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Tigers have also been given odds of +9000 to win the SEC Championship and odds of +3500 to win the SEC West Division.
The Tigers won the BCS National Championship in the 2010 season, but just a few years later, Auburn fired coach Gene Chizik. Now, the program turns to Gus Malzahn to get things back on track after a 3-9 season in 2012. Malzahn has some talent to work with, as the team has 17 starters back from 2012.
Offensively, Auburn struggled in 2012, averaging just 18.7 points and 305 yards per game. The offense has seven starters back from 2012, including running back Tre Mason, who rushed for 1,002 yards and eight touchdowns. The team also returns three starters on the offensive line, but will need improved quarterback play. The Tigers averaged just 157 passing yards per game last season.
On defense, Auburn brings back eight starters from a group that allowed 28.3 points and 421 yards per game. The Tigers really struggled against the run, allowing just under 200 yards per game on the ground. Auburn brings back three starters on the defensive line, including senior Dee Ford, who had six sacks in 2012. The Tigers should be strong in the secondary, as they return all four starters.
