Arizona 2013 Season Odds
(TheSpread) – Rich Rodriguez took Arizona to a bowl game in his first season as head coach, can he lead the Wildcats to a championship in 2013?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Arizona has been given 250/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Wildcats have been given odds of +800 to win the Pac-12 Conference and odds of +300 to win the Pac-12 South.
After failing to win at least eight games in the 2011 and 2012 season, the Wildcats relieved Bob Stoops of his coaching duties and turned to Rich Rodriguez. In his first season, Rodriguez led Arizona to an 8-5 record, picking up a 49-48 win over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl to end the season.
This year, Rodriguez has a team with some promise, as the Wildcats have 17 starters back from the 2012 squad, including all 11 starters on defense. Granted, the Arizona defense struggled last season, allowing 35.3 points and 499 yards per game, but a full season under Rodriguez’ system should lead to improvements for the 2013 season.
Where Arizona was strong, was on offense. The Wildcats averaged 38.2 points and 526 total yards per game in 2012. This year’s squad will have to break in a new quarterback in senior B.J. Denker, but Arizona does return its stud running back, junior Ka’Deem Carey. Carey rushed for 1,929 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2012 and he also had 36 receptions for 303 yards. Carey has the attention of the country, as he has been given 40/1 odds to win the 2013 Heisman Trophy.
