Arkansas 2013 Season Odds
(TheSpread) – Brett Bielema surprised many when he left Wisconsin to take over Arkansas. Will it lead to a successful 2013 season for the Razorbacks?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Arkansas has been given 250/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Razorbacks have also been given money lines of +9000 to win the SEC Championship and +3500 to win the SEC West Division.
Arkansas looked to be a program ready to contend for an SEC title a few years ago. The Razorbacks were coming off an 11-2 record in 2011, including a win over Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl. However, then-coach Bobby Petrino was caught in a scandal with a team assistant and student, forcing him to be let go from the program. In 2012, Arkansas went with John L. Smith on an interim basis. Things didn’t go well, as the Razorbacks went 4-8, their lowest win total since 2005.
This season, Arkansas comes into the season with a new attitude, as Bielema takes over after leading Wisconsin to back-to-back Big Ten Championships. His goal will be to get Arkansas its first conference title since 1989.
Arkansas comes into the season with 13 starters back from 2012, including eight on defense. That should help the Razorbacks improve on 2012 numbers that saw the team give up an average of 30.4 points and 410 yards per game. Leading the defense will be senior defensive end Chris Smith, who had 9.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries in 2012.
Offensively, Arkansas put up just 23.5 points per game despite racking up 420 yards per contest. The issue came with turnovers, where the Razorbacks were -19 for the season. This year’s squad loses their starting quarterback, leading rusher and leading receiver from the 2012 team. Sophomore Brandon Allen is expected to be the starter this season, but he threw just 49 passes in 2012.
