Pittsburgh Season Odds
PITTSBURGH, PA (TheSpread) – The Pittsburgh Panthers have a new head coach that they are hoping can lead it to championship-level success in 2015. Will Pitt make a run this upcoming season?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Pittsburgh is currently listed at +25000 to win the 2015 College Football Playoffs. The Panthers are also currently with odds of +2000 to win the ACC Championship this upcoming season.
After going three seasons with Paul Chryst as head coach, which led to a record of 19-20, he left the program to take over at Wisconsin, which opened the door for Pat Narduzzi to step in. Narduzzi spent the last eight seasons as defensive coordinator at Michigan State, where he built the Spartans into one of the top defensive units in the entire country.
Narduzzi will have a decent defense to get started with, as Pittsburgh gave up just 26.3 points per game in 2014. The issue with the team seems to be more on the offensive end. While it did post 31.8 points per game, it relied heavily on the run game. The Panthers averaged just under 250 yards per game rushing while averaging just 185.9 yards passing.
Pittsburgh has a Heisman Trophy longshot in running back James Conner, who rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns last season as a sophomore. He currently is at +4000 to win the Heisman in 2015. Another big key for the Panthers will be junior quarterback Chad Voytik. He threw for 2,233 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. If he can take a step up in play, Pittsburgh could be a dark horse to claim the ACC.
