Fournette is currently 8/1 to win the Heisman Trophy according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv. His listed behind only Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott (6/1) and TCU’s Trevone Boykin (7/1) in terms of the odds, and has the same odds to win as Georgia’s Nick Chubb.
ESPN also recently named Fournette as one of five candidates for the SEC’s 2015 Offensive Player of the Year after he rushed for 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman with the Tigers last season. Chubb, Alabama running back Derrick Henry, Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott, and Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell were the other candidates listed by ESPN.
After entering college football as the top-ranked high school recruit in the country, Fournette became the first freshman to rush for 1,000 yards in a season in school history. LSU will lean heavily on him again as the Tigers look to compete for a playoff berth in 2015-16.
