OSU investigation delays rewards
COLUMBUS, OH (AP) – An NCAA investigation into rules infractions by the Ohio State football program has delayed release of the team’s 2010 “gold pants” charms, an award that team members receive if they beat rival Michigan.
Former Ohio State All-America offensive lineman Jim Lachey is president of the Gold Pants Club that distributes the trinkets. He tells The Columbus Dispatch that the group is waiting to see if the NCAA vacates any of last season’s wins.
Ohio State has suspended five players for violating NCAA rules by selling memorabilia to a Columbus tattoo parlor owner. Coach Jim Tressel will sit out the games as part of a reprimand for failing to reveal that he knew about the players’ violations.
The NCAA has said penalties could include vacating wins from last season.
