NCAA denies Slaughter sixth year
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - The NCAA has denied Notre Dame safety Jamoris Slaughter a sixth year of eligibility. View 2014 BCS National Championship Futures Slaughter, who did not play as a freshman, tore his left Achilles tendon in the third game of the season, a 20-3 victory over Michigan State. He started 19 games in four seasons and played in 39, finishing with 98 tackles, two interceptions and two sacks. Slaughter's injury forced the Irish to use sophomore Matthias Farley, a converted wide receiver, at safety. Farley finished eighth on the team with 49 tackles. He also had an interception. The Irish also lose senior safety Zeke Motta. The Irish return Nicky Baratti, who had eight tackles as a freshman, and signed four defensive backs in the incoming freshman class.
