BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FREE PICK: Take Notre Dame. According to latest college football trends, Alabama is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games on grass, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and are 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. Notre Dame is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and is  5-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Notre Dame has been giving little to no respect this entire season, so why should they be getting respect in the biggest game of the season from the oddsmakers? Notre Dame has not won a national title since 1988 and has not been atop the rankings since 1993. Alabama is chasing its third national championship in the past four years under Nick Saban, who has restored the luster to one of the few programs that can stand up to Notre Dame's legacy. Notre Dame can handle this physical Alabama team but they are just as strong up front on both lines.

Linebacker Manti Te'o leads a defense that allows a nation-low 10.3 points per game and withstood a number of close calls as its offense continued to improve. They met every challenge this year and won. Notre Dame was at its most dominant in a 30-13 rout at Oklahoma on Oct. 27 as a 10.5-point dog. Sound familiar? The Fighting Irish defense permitted only nine touchdowns overall and two on the ground. Te'o has seven interceptions and played behind a stellar defensive front featuring ends Stephon Tuitt (12 sacks) and Kapron Lewis-Moore along with the massive Louis Nix III. Notre Dame's running back corps of Theo Riddick, Cierre Wood and George Atkinson III combined for 2,000 yards and will test a defense that allowed a national-low 246 yards. Notre Dame's offense revolves around dual-threat quarterback Everett Golson. Expect Notre Dame to challenge Alabama, take an early lead and win this game outright.
