Ducks get back to the top of the P12
If not for a 31-28 loss at Arizona State, Oregon may have been in the College Football Playoffs. The Ducks suffered a close loss to Auburn in the opener, but won all other games, including an impressive 37-15 win over Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game. The Ducks are 11-2 on the season, 7-6 against the spread and 7-6 with the under.
Oregon is a strong defensive team, bucking from the trends of past Oregon squads. The Ducks are giving up just 15.7 points and 331.1 yards per game. Kayvon Thibodeaux is leading the unit with 34 tackles and nine sacks. Offensively, Oregon is putting up 35.9 points and 453.3 yards per game. Justin Herbert has thrown for 3,333 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead the offense while CJ Verdell has rushed for 1,171 yards and eight touchdowns. Johnny Johnson III is the top receiver with 55 catches for 818 yards and seven scores.
Badgers drop two to Ohio State
Prior to Clemson, Wisconsin gave Ohio State its toughest challenge in the Big Ten Championship Game, but still suffered a 34-21 loss after holding a big lead early. That loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Badgers. The Badgers are 10-3 on the season, 8-5 against the spread and 7-6 with the under.
Like usual, Wisconsin is one of the better defensive teams in the country. The Badgers are giving up just 16.1 points and 295.2 yards per game this season. Both Chris Orr and Zach Baun have combined for 143 tackles and 24 sacks. Offensively, Wisconsin is averaging 34.6 points and 442.3 yards per game. Jonathan Taylor is leading the Wisconsin offense with 1,909 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Jack Coan has thrown for 2,541 yards and 17 touchdowns, while Quintez Cephus is the leading receiver with 52 catches for 842 yards and six touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Oregon
The Ducks are 2-6 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games and 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog.
Wisconsin
The Badgers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five bowl games and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games on grass.
Prediction:
This game has largely belonged to the Pac-12, winning seven of the last 10 when these two conferences meet up in Pasadena. Based on numbers, the Wisconsin defense is a little stronger, but the Badgers also play a lot of physical squads that don’t quite have the explosiveness you find in the Pac-12. Ohio State was able to work their way past Wisconsin twice with their speed and athleticism. We saw what Oregon can do to a defensive-led team in Utah, beating them on both sides of the ball. The Ducks have a defense that can force Wisconsin into a passing game that I don’t think will hold up. Oregon also has the weapons to break big plays on offense throughout the game and pick up the upset.
