MSU Madness

East Lansing, MI - Michigan State's basketball teams drew a record crowd to Midnight Madness at the Breslin Center on Friday night.

Admission was stopped when a capacity crowd of 14,759 was assured, the first time that had happened for the Spartans in their annual season-opening event.

``That's the most we've had here by a lot,'' coach Tom Izzo said.
The men are expected to be ranked among the nation's top teams after going 31-7, winning the Big Ten by the second-largest margin in history and defeating two No. 1 seeds en route to the NCAA championship game.
Michigan State expects to have a top team in women's basketball, as coach Suzy Merchant returns all but one player from a squad that reached the NCAA tournament's regional semifinals.
