MIAMI (AP) - Rick Pitino will be coaching against his son.

Louisville and Florida International announced a three-game series that will start on Dec. 19. Rick Pitino coaches the Cardinals; his son and former assistant coach Richard Pitino was hired earlier this year to take over at FIU.

Rick Pitino made the offer to his son when he was completing the hiring process at FIU.

Officials say the series is contingent on both coaches remaining at their respective schools. Richard Pitino says the deal ``will open the door for other opportunities'' when it comes to FIU's future scheduling.

FIU will return to Louisville in the 2013-14 season. Louisville would visit FIU sometime in the 2014-15 schedule.
