The move comes a week after Lon Kruger left UNLV following seven seasons to become Oklahoma’s new coach.
UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood says he offered the job to Rice and Rice accepted. The offer is pending the approval of the Nevada Board of Regents.
Livengood said in a statement Sunday no further information would be available until a news conference scheduled for Monday.
Rice joined BYU as an assistant in 2005 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2008.
