Michigan wins the South
(TheSpread) – It wasn’t an easy road to the Final Four, but Michigan made it look easy on Sunday, as the Wolverines won the South Region by beating Florida.
Michigan came into the region as the fourth seed and it began its run to Atlanta by beating 13th-seeded South Dakota State, 71-65. Michigan then dominated fifth-seeded VCU, 78-53 to reach its first Sweet 16 since 1994.
In the regional semifinal, Michigan defeated top-seeded Kansas, 87-85, in a wild overtime contest. The Wolverines were down 10 with just under 3 minutes to play, but managed to force overtime thanks to hot shooting from Trey Burke. On Sunday, Michigan hammered third-seeded Florida, 79-59, to reach the Final Four.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Michigan had 7/1 odds to reach the Final Four out of the South Region, which means a $100 wager on the Wolverines to win will pay out an additional $700.
In Sunday’s win, Michigan started hot and never looked back. The Wolverines led by at least 10 points from the 17:15 mark of the first half throughout the rest of the game. Michigan got tremendous shooting from Nik Stauskas, who was 7 for 8 from the field and 6 of 6 from 3-point land for 22 points. Trey Burke added 15 points, seven assists and eight rebounds for Michigan.
