Illinois vs. Miami Odds

AUSTIN, TX (TheSpread) – Miami hopes to reach its first Sweet 16 since 2000 on Sunday when the Hurricanes face Illinois at 8:40PM ET in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

This game will be played from Frank Erwin Special Events Center in Austin, Texas and is part of the East Region with Miami as the No. 2 seed and Illinois as the No. 7 seed. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Miami is the clear favorite in this game, as the Hurricanes have odds of -7.5 points against the Illini. The over/under total for this contest has been set at 128.5 points. Opening odds had Miami as just a 5.5-point favorite. The spread was never lower than that. The odds have hit their peak with Miami favored by 7.5 points.

Miami opened its tournament with an impressive 78-49 win over Pacific. The Hurricanes dominated form the start, taking a 40-19 lead in the first half. Miami held Pacific to 18 of 54 shooting and forced 14 turnovers. The Hurricanes hit 12 3-pointers in the win as well. Durand Scott had 21 points to lead Miami in the win. Miami is now 28-6 on the season, 4-2 on a neutral floor and 21-9-1 against the spread.

Illinois advanced to today’s game by grinding out a 57-49 win over Colorado. After taking a 37-21 lead into halftime, the Illini started very slow in the second half, and even trailed at one point before rallying to close out with the win. Illinois was just 16 of 52 from the floor and 8 of 31 from 3-point land, but the Illini forced Colorado into 15 turnovers and they took 11 more free-throw attempts in the game. Tracy Abrams had 13 points, six assists and four rebounds to lead Illinois in the win. Illinois is now 23-12 on the season, 6-2 on a neutral floor and 14-18 against the spread.
