KANSAS CITY, MO (TheSpread) – Kansas hopes to avoid a major upset on Friday when it takes on Western Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at 9:50PM ET.

This game will be played from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri and is part of the South Region with Kansas as the top seed and Western Kentucky the 16 seed (View Matchup). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Kansas is the clear favorite in this game, as it has odds of -19.5 points against Western Kentucky. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 133 points. The opening odds had Kansas as a 20-point favorite. The spread didn’t alter much, simply dropping the ½ point to Kansas -19.5. These two teams last met in 1997, with Kansas getting a 75-62 victory.

Kansas earned a top seed in this region by winning the Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament titles. The Jayhawks went 14-4 in conference play and are 29-5 overall. Western Kentucky is the tournament champion out of the Sun Belt Conference. The Hilltoppers are 20-15 on the season and went 10-10 in conference play, finishing fourth in the regular season. WKU ranks 154th in the RPI rankings and has a 0-5 record against RPI top 50 programs. The Hilltoppers are 5-2 on a neutral floor this season and 17-17 against the spread.
