Cal Poly vs. Texas Southern Odds


DAYTON, OH (TheSpread) – The 2014 NCAA Tournament continues on Wednesday with the First Four. The opening game has Cal Poly facing Texas Southern at 6:40PM ET.

Cal Poly comes in with a 13-19 record, but it won the Big West Tournament. Texas Southern is 19-14 on the season and champions of the SWAC. According to oddsmakers at, Cal Poly is the favorite in this game, as it has odds of -3 points against Texas Southern. The over/under total for the game has been set at 130 points (View Matchup).

Cal Poly played in 30 lined games this year, going just 11-19 against the spread. The Mustangs lost five of their last six before entering the conference tournament and making a run. Poly averages just 63.2 points per game this season, which ranks 327th nationally, but the Mustangs were 35th in scoring defense, giving up only 63.4 points per game. The team has been led by Chris Eversley, who averages 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

Texas Southern had just six lined games on the season, going 2-4 against the spread. The Tigers have won nine straight entering the tournament and are 51st in the nation in scoring, averaging 76.2 points per game. However, Southern is giving up 73.7 points per game defensively. The team is led by Aaric Murray, who averages 21.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.
