The 2010 Mountain West Conference Tournament begins play Wednesday from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bet the 2010 Mountain West Tournament The 9-team tournament features one opening round game with seven teams already locked into Thursday’s quarterfinals. The championship will take place on Saturday. One of the conference’s highest-ranked team, BYU, is favored to win the tournament title. Oddsmakers from online sports book Brobury Sports have given BYU 1/1 odds to win. Other short odds to win are New Mexico (37/20), UNLV (2/1), and San Diego State (5/1). BYU has won this tournament once in its 10 years of existence. That win came in 2001, but the Cougars have made three other championship appearances. BYU is ranked 14th in the country and carries a 28-4 record overall with a 13-3 conference mark, earning it the No. 2 seed in the tournament. BYU has lost twice to New Mexico and once to UNLV in conference play. New Mexico won the regular season title this year with a 14-2 record and also has a 28-3 overall mark, earning it the No. 8 ranking in the polls. The Lobos won this tournament in 2005. Following losses to UNLV and Utah in the middle of the season, New Mexico has followed up with 14-straight wins to end the year. UNLV has won three tournament titles, with the last coming in 2008. The Rebels will be the No. 3 seed this week after finishing with an 11-5 conference record. UNLV is 23-7 overall and has won four straight to end the season. UNLV holds wins over both New Mexico and BYU. San Diego State has won two tournament titles, with the last coming in 2006. The Aztecs will be the No 4 seed after going 11-5 in conference play.
