Rams get past Spartans
Colorado State earned a 78-71 home win Saturday over San Jose State to improve to 19-10 overall and 10-6 in the Mountain West Conference. The Rams outscored the Spartans 38-28 in the second half after trailing by three at the break. Adam Thistlewood led CSU with 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting, all from 3-point distance, plus 4-of-4 at the free throw line. He also grabbed four rebounds. Dischon Thomas accounted for 13 points, two boards and two steals off the bench. Nico Carvacho tallied 10 points and 10 caroms. David Roddy added 10 points and six rebounds.
Aztecs edged by Rebels
San Diego State lost 66-63 at home Saturday night versus UNLV for its first setback of the season to drop to 26-1 overall and 15-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Aztecs outscored the Rebels 38-29 in the second half after trailing by 12 at the break but could not rally all the way back. Malachi Flynn led SDSU with 24 points on 7-of-19 shooting including 4-of-13 from 3-point range plus 6-of-6 at the charity stripe. He also notched nine rebounds and six assists. Matt Mitchell had 13 points and four boards. Jordan Schakel added 10 points, nine caroms and two steals.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Colorado State
The Rams are 140-182 ATS as an underdog since 1997. Colorado State is 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings.
San Diego State
The Aztecs are 17-7 ATS this season. San Diego State is 28-13 ATS in its last 41 home games.
Prediction:
The Aztecs beat CSU 79-57 on the road all the way back on December 4 and it’s difficult not to like the hosts here. Prior to the rough outing against UNLV, SDSU had beaten its previous three opponents by at least 15 points with two of those contests being on the road. The Rams are a fringe top 100 team and quite frankly not in the Aztecs’ league. I see a decisive victory here as the hosts want to prove they are still worthy of a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
