ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -Five UNC Asheville players scored in double figures as the Bulldogs rallied past Buffalo 101-90 in overtime Saturday.
UNC Asheville (9-3) was down 14 points in the second half but outscored the Bulls 21-10 in overtime and used a huge disparity at the free throw line, going 32-of-49 compared to Buffalo’s 6-of-9.
Bryan Smithson led the Bulldogs with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Kenny George finished with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Reid Augst added 16 points, K.J. Garland chipped in 15 and freshman John Williams got the first double-double with a career-high 13 points and a career-best 14 rebounds.
Buffalo (6-6) was led by Sean Smiley’s 18 points. Calvin Betts added 16 points, all in the second half and overtime, while Andy Robinson had 14 and Rodney Pierce finished with 13.
Buffalo led 71-57 with eight minutes left in the second half before George and Smithson led the Bulldogs on a 18-6 run. Tied at 80-80, UNC Asheville took the lead for good in overtime after a dunk from George. Betts scored with 1:17 left and the Bulldogs finished on an 11-3 run for the win.
