HONOLULU (AP) -Donavan Monroe's baseline jumper with 1.1 seconds left rallied the College of Charleston to a 72-71 victory over SMU in the Diamond Head Classic on Wednesday night.
Mustangs coach Matt Doherty screamed for a traveling call as Monroe fumbled the dribble before making his winning basket, but no call was made and the Cougars (6-5) celebrated at midcourt.
Monroe's jumper followed a frenetic last-minute flurry when SMU (4-5) came back from a 70-66 deficit to take a brief lead. After the Mustangs' Mouhammad Faye hit a 3-pointer with 48.9 seconds left, teammate Paul McCoy made a layup off an offensive rebound with 6.6 seconds remaining to give SMU a 71-70 lead.
However, the last of Monroe's 15 points gave Charleston the win. Jeremy Simmons led the Cougars with 18 points.
Faye scored 17 for the Mustangs and Papa Dia had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
