MOBILE, Ala. (AP) – James Daniel scored 22 points and James Carlton scored all 17 of his points in the second half to lead Howard to a 73-60 win over South Alabama on Monday.
Marcel Boyd had 14 rebounds as the Bison (7-7) had a 46-32 rebounding advantage, 23-12 on the offensive end. That led to 14 more shots, which off-set a 41 percent night (26-63). Howard was also just 14 of 24 from the foul line.
Taishaun Johnson led South Alabama (2-8), which lost its fifth straight, with 17 points and Ken Williams had 11. The Jaguars shot just 30.6 percent but stayed close by making 23 of 29 free throws.
Carlton hit a 3-pointer at 13:31 of the second half to start an 11-2 run for a 58-46 cushion. Carlton also had a dunk and capped the run at 9:48 with two free throws.
