WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) -Cleveland Richard scored 17 points as Army withstood an upset bid by Mount St. Vincent 62-56 on Saturday.
Richard’s 3-pointer with 5:57 remaining gave the Black Knights (8-2) a 54-52 lead. Army never led by more than five points until the final half-minute against the Dolphins (4-3), a Division III team facing its first Division I opponent in 20 years.
Mount St. Vincent tied it 54-54 on Pat Panetta’s two free throws with 5:10 left, and it stayed that way for 3 minutes until Josh Miller’s layup began an 8-0 Army run.
Army had a 41-25 rebounding edge and outshot Mount St. Vincent 45.7 percent (21-for-46) to 33.9 percent (19-for-56), but the Dolphins stayed in the game by making 11 of 34 outside the 3-point arc.
Nick DiMaggio finished with 13 points for Mount St. Vincent and Dino Johnson had 12, including three 3-pointers that helped the Dolphins take a 19-11 lead.
