LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky coach John Calipari is all for the NBA coming to the Bluegrass.
Calipari said Friday he believes the NBA would be a success in Kentucky. Louisville city officials have hired an attorney to gauge the possibility of bringing professional basketball to the state’s largest city.
The city recently opened the 22,000-seat KFC Yum! Center, the home of the University of Louisville men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Calipari, who has coached in the NBA and shared an NBA facility with the Memphis Grizzlies while coaching at the University of Memphis, says he doesn’t believe an NBA team would draw away any attention from Kentucky and could be a boon to the state.
Calipari says the NBA’s arrival in Memphis helped him promote his program and lure better players.
