RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -Brandon Costner had 24 points and 17 rebounds to help North Carolina State beat East Carolina 87-76 on Wednesday night.
Ben McCauley added 20 points for the Wolfpack (6-1), who used Javi Gonzalez's running heave from halfcourt just before halftime to start a game-turning 18-2 spurt. N.C. State shot 52 percent for the game and led by as many as 16 points in the second half before holding off a late rally to avenge last year's road loss.
Brock Young scored 25 points to lead the Pirates (8-2), who got as close as four points in the final 3 minutes but couldn't complete the comeback.
East Carolina upset N.C. State 75-69 last year in Greenville, beating the Wolfpack for the first time in 18 meetings and earning its first win in 58 tries against an Atlantic Coast Conference program.
