JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Renardo Sidney scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds as Mississippi State beat Belhaven 101-76 Wednesday in Sidney’s exhibition debut with the Bulldogs.
Sidney, a 6-foot-10 forward who missed more than a year’s worth of games after an NCAA eligibility battle and subsequent suspension, was one of the nation’s top recruits in 2009. He will make his regular-season debut on Saturday against Virginia Tech.
Mississippi State specifically scheduled the exhibition so Sidney could have a practice game before becoming eligible.
The NCAA ruled last March that Sidney had to repay $11,800 in improper benefits and sit out the remainder of the 2010 season and nine more games this season before he could play for the Bulldogs.
Ravern Johnson led the Bulldogs with 29 points. Dee Bost added 26.
Belhaven, which normally plays at the NAIA level, was led by Rob Wallace’s 31 points.
