MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -Kevin Jones had 22 points and 11 rebounds and No. 6 West Virginia overcame the absence of two starters to beat Coppin State 69-43 on Saturday night.
West Virginia (7-0) held a second straight opponent to under 50 points. Despite a poor shooting night from all over the court, the Mountaineers won their 28th straight home game against a non-conference foe.
Da’Sean Butler added 16 points and Darryl Bryant scored 11 for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia withstood Coppin State’s slowdown tactics and dominated the offense glass to forge ahead to stay midway through the first half. The Mountaineers’ lead never fell below double digits after halftime.
Vince Goldsberry scored 12 points for Coppin State (5-4).
