HOUMA, La. (AP) – Ben Martin had five steals and 10 points and Nicholls State’s defense shut down Loyola (N.O.) 75-41 on Wednesday night.
The Colonels (4-2) scored 31 points off of 28 turnovers and had 16 steals. It was the fourth time in the last six games Nicholls State had double digit steals, and the third time in six games it forced 20 or more turnovers. The Colonels, who turned it over 14 times, were No. 6 in the nation with a 7.2 turnover margin.
The Colonels trailed 16-15 with 7:11 left in the first half. They then scored the next 14 to go into the break up 29-16 on Anatoly Bose’s free throws with 1:20 left.
Bose, the second leading scorer in the nation (27.4), finished with 15 points, snapping an eight-game streak of 20-point performances. Fred Hunter had 18 points for Nicholls State.
The NAIA Wolfpack (5-5) were led by Chris Joseph Jr. with 14 points.
