 OREM, Utah (AP) -Jesse Byrd scored 13 points and added 12 rebounds as UC Santa Barbara defeated Utah Valley 62-57 on Thursday night.
It was the Wolverines' first home loss of the season.
UC Santa Barbara's DJ Posley held Utah Valley's Ryan Toolson under his 27-point average, but Toolson still managed to score a team-high 19 points.
Contributing in the win for the Gauchos (4-4) were Will Brew with 11 points and James Powell with nine points and five rebounds.
The Gauchos used a 34-25 halftime lead to propel them in the victory.
The Wolverines (4-2) rallied late, cutting the lead to three with under a minute to play, but UC Santa Barbara made crucial free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
