LOS ANGELES (AP) -Mario Chalmers made a 3-pointer and a free throw in the final 20 seconds and No. 4 Kansas held off No. 22 Southern California 59-55 on Sunday.
After USC had pulled within 55-53 on Davon Jefferson's two free throws with 54 seconds left, Chalmers hit his 3 from the left side, then added a free throw with 3 seconds remaining to cap the scoring. He finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Darrell Arthur had 10 points and eight rebounds and Darnell Jackson had nine points and 13 rebounds to help the Jayhawks (7-0) control the inside for much of the game.
Freshman O.J. Mayo led the Trojans (6-2) with 19 points, but shot just 6-of-21 from the floor. Davon Jefferson, also a freshman, added 17 points.
