FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Gary Ricks scored 25 points to lead Drake to an 84-74 victory over Fresno State at the Fresno State Classic Friday night.
Richard Carter contributed 21 points for Drake (4-1), which fell behind early but came back to tie Fresno State (4-3) at 31 with 5:27 remaining in the first half, then took a 37-35 lead into the half.
The score was tied six times and there were seven lead changes. Fresno State took the lead on an Allen Huddleston free throw with nine minutes remaining in the game. A Cezar Guerrero jumper followed by a Karachi Edo dunk kept Fresno State in front until Carter made a 3-pointer to give Drake a 63-61 lead with 7:17 remaining. Drake then stretched the lead to 72-63. Fresno State cut the deficit to five on a Guerrero 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining, but couldn't pull closer.
Fresno State's Marvelle Harris had 26 points.
