SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) – The Syracuse police department says it will turn over its records on child molestation allegations against former Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine.
The department says the decision was made after the investigation entered a “new phase,” involving the U.S. Attorney’s office and the U.S. Secret Service.
Fine was fired Sunday night after a third man accused him of molesting him nine years ago. Two former Syracuse ball boys were the first to accuse Fine, who has called the allegations “patently false.”
City police previously refused to turn over investigative material to county District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, sparking a squabble in which he accused police of leaking material to the media. Fitzpatrick served a subpoena on the department and a judge was to decide Tuesday whether police had to turn over records.
