PUERTO AVENTURAS, Mexico (AP) TCU’s determined approach to take the ball to the rim brought the team from behind Tuesday against Rhode Island, but the Rams responded with big shots and tough defense in the final minute to post a 66-60 victory in the Cancun Challenge tournament.
Graduate transfer Four McGlynn (18 points) drained a long 3-pointer with 45 seconds left to push Rhode Island up, 61-57, and junior Hassan Martin (14 points) blocked a layup 10 seconds later that put the Rams in control. TCU was forced to foul in hopes of managing another comeback, but Rhode Island (which shot 21 of 33 from the line) converted enough to preserve the win.
Taking just four 3-pointers in the second half, TCU relied on its full roster offensively to slowly claim the lead after trailing most of the night.
Jared Terrel scored 12 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Rams (3-1).
Brandon Parrish led the Horned Frogs (2-2) with 13 points.
