MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -The Minnesota Gophers are on a roll after beating some big-name teams in a tropical tournament last weekend. Coach Tubby Smith is doing his best to keep his players from getting overconfident.
The Gophers cracked the national rankings this week at No. 15. That’s as high as they’ve been since their run to the Final Four in 1997. Minnesota beat Western Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament to improve to 5-0.
Smith says he was pleased by his team’s toughness in the championship game Sunday against the physical Mountaineers.
Also, Smith says he’s unsure if guard Devoe Joseph will return from his suspension for Wednesday’s game against North Dakota State.
