LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) -After a relatively down year talent-wise, the Maui Invitational is again loaded with top teams playing in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Nestled within this must-see lineup is an intriguingly juicy subplot for a game that might not even happen: Kentucky vs. Washington in the second round.
The reason is Kentucky freshman Terrence Jones.
One of the most sought-after recruits in the country, Jones committed to play for Washington at an April news conference, only to call Kentucky coach John Calipari a few hours later to say he made a mistake.
Jones ended up in Lexington and left Huskies fans bitter, though Calipari and Washington’s Lorenzo Romar have downplayed the effects of the recruiting war.
