JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -Wesley Jenkins scored 10 points to lead Saint Peter’s to a 58-34 victory over Monmouth on Tuesday in a game that started at 6 a.m.
The Peacocks (1-1) didn’t seem to have any trouble with the early start time, while the same could not be said for the Hawks (1-2), who struggled from the field all game, finishing 10 of 47 (21.3 percent), including making just two of 13 from 3-point range.
Saint Peter’s took a 27-16 halftime lead and pulled ahead by as many as 26 points, 53-27 on a basket by Darius Conley with 3:48 to play.
Conley and Steven Samuels both had nine points for the Peacocks, who were urged on by a contingent of students who spent most of the night at a pep rally getting ready for the home game.
Travis Taylor led Monmouth with 12 points.
