BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -Three players scored in double figures for Virginia Tech as the Hokies defeated Mount St. Mary’s 62-57 Monday night.
Malcolm Delaney led Virginia Tech (2-0), scoring 18 points with 13 coming from the free-throw line. Virginia Tech was solid from the free-throw line, shooting 84.4 percent (27 of 32).
A.D. Vassallo added 15 for the Hokies, while Jeff Allen scored 13.
Jean Cajou led Mount St. Mary’s (1-1) with a game-high 19 points.
Mount St. Mary’s had a 24-23 lead heading into the locker room, but Virginia Tech outscored the Mountaineers 39-33 in the second half to pull off the victory.
The Mountaineers shot 36.7 percent from the field (22 of 60), but committed 21 personal fouls, sending Virginia Tech to the line 32 times.
