GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Brett Comer scored 21 points, including two late free throws, to send FGCU past Furman 70-69 on Friday night.
With FGCU (2-1) leading 68-67, Kendrec Ferrara made a hook shot in the lane to put the Paladins (2-1) ahead with 41 seconds left. But Comer drew a foul on a drive to the basket with 6 seconds remaining and made both free throws to give the lead back to FGCU. Furman had one final shot as Stephen Croone's last-second heave from near half court bounced off the rim.
Furman held a 63-54 lead with 5:34 left, but FGCU began to find success against Furman's 2-3 zone, going on a 14-4 run to take the lead on a Jamail Jones layup with 1:05 left.
Bernard Thompson had 20 points for FGCU. Jones scored 13 and Chase Fieler added 10 for the Eagles.
Croone scored 24 points to lead the Paladins.
