BALTIMORE, Md. (AP) – Dylon Cormier scored 20 points and Erik Etherly had a double-double to lead Loyola (Md.) to a 78-68 victory on Monday night over Coppin State in a non-conference game.
The Greyhounds (1-1) won with balanced scoring and rebounding dominance.
Down 32-31 at halftime, Loyola (1-1) opened the second half on a 10-1 run. They easily outrebounded Coppin State 47-25. Eighteen of those rebounds came on the offensive board, resulting in 17 points. The Eagles had just five offensive rebounds and didn’t score a second-chance point.
Tony Gallo led Coppin State with 23 points, but only six in the second half. Cormier had more support, especially from Etherly. His double-double included 15 points and 11 rebounds. This came after Etherly broke his nose in practice and played sparingly in a season-opening loss at Wake Forest. Besides Etherly, four teammates had six rebounds or more.
