OREM, Utah (AP) -Utah Valley guard Ryan Toolson scored 14 straight points to close out the second half as his team survived its home opener holding off Northern Arizona 68-62.
Toolson scored 23 on the night as he overcame a first-half shooting slump.
The Wolverines (1-0) stayed close through a collective effort as senior Josh Olsen and junior Jordan Swarbrick scored nine and eight points respectively in securing the win.
An 18-foot jump shot by Toolson put UVU up by six late in the second half, a deficit that became too much for Northern Arizona (0-1) to overcome as Toolson took over the game offensively for the Wolverines.
