SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – The Utah senior center David Foster is scheduled to have foot surgery and will be out indefinitely.
Utah also announced that junior guard Chris Hines will miss two to four weeks with a rib injury. The school said on Tuesday that both were hurt in the Nov. 4 exhibition game against Division II Adams State, a 61-60 loss.
The Utes are rebuilding under new coach Larry Krystkowiak and are in their first season in the Pac-12 Conference. They already were picked to finish last in the league with only two returning starters and four players back from a team that finished 13-18 last season.
Jason Washburn is expected to start in Foster’s place in the season-opener Monday against San Diego Christian College.
