The Memphis Tigers have risen from the ashes since being jilted by John Calipari and it’s easy to see and hear the differences in the program.
Coach Josh Pastner never swears or berates his Tigers, preferring the positive approach to motivating players. It’s just not the young coach’s style – unlike his predecessor. His roster also is stocked with eight players whose roots are in Memphis high schools.
Going into their third season in the post-JC era, the No. 11 Tigers have their highest preseason ranking since Calipari bolted for Kentucky. Pastner is growing into the job offered to him with his car packed and ready to follow Calipari to the Bluegrass State.
Pastner says he has made keeping Memphis players at home his priority and it’s paying off.
