EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -Michigan State’s Kalin Lucas says Kansas deserves to be regarded as college basketball’s best team right now.
But the reigning Big Ten player of the year says the Spartans will have a shot to cut down the nets at the NCAA tournament.
The Spartans received five first-place votes – 50 fewer than the Jayhawks – and are No. 2 behind Kansas in The Associated Press preseason poll released Thursday.
Lucas notes the Jayhawks have all their starters back, plus some key reserves and talented freshman.
Michigan State shouldn’t be too shabby. Lucas, senior standout Raymar Morgan, five more of the team’s top nine scorers and coach Tom Izzo are back from the team that lost to North Carolina in the national championship game earlier this year in Detroit.
