AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Auburn coach Tony Barbee is hoping his team can be a little more offensive this season.
The Tigers struggled to hit shots, whether they were shooting from outside or around the basket in Barbee’s first year. The results were some close, low-scoring games that often ended up as losses.
Barbee now has a backcourt that includes a healthy Frankie Sullivan and transfers Varez Ward and Noel Johnson. He’s confident the Tigers can be significantly better offensively this season.
Auburn ranked 11th in the league in scoring offense and field goal percentage and was last in free throw percentage and 3-pointers made last season. They went 11-20.
The Tigers do have to replace leading scorer and rebounder Earnest Ross, who transferred to Missouri.
