TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Alabama has done the off-the-court work to get into the NCAA tournament.
The Crimson Tide, No. 19 in the preseason poll, have set up a nonconference schedule featuring Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
Alabama flirted with a regular season Southeastern Conference title last season but was shut out of the NCAA field largely because of a poor start against a less impressive nonconference lineup.
The Tide has more going for them than the schedule. Top three scorers JaMychal Green, Tony Mitchell and Trevor Releford all return. Green is a preseason first-team all-SEC pick.
Coach Anthony Grant supplements the team’s core with a strong recruiting class led by two-time Alabama Mr. Basketball Trevor Lacey.
The Tide haven’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2006.
