INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The NCAA’s Board of Directors has decided to take a longer look at summer basketball recruiting but won’t eliminate it yet.
The committee decided not to support the proposal from the Collegiate Commissioners Association, which would have banned summer recruiting. The governing body’s web site said the board decided it couldn’t move forward on that proposal after objections were raised by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and some conferences.
Supporters of the change believe it would weed out some of the third-party influences in the recruiting process. Opponents suggest it would increase costs and not give coaches enough time to make thorough evaluations.
No changes are expected to be made before the summer of 2012.
