TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) – Coming out of high school, Derrick Williams wasn’t sure he could score in college. Even when the shots started falling, Arizona’s coaches had to prod him to shoot more.
That won’t be a problem this season.
Bolstered by last year’s success, the reigning Pac-10 freshman of the year is ready for a super sophomore season.
The 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward is bigger and stronger than he was a year ago, and has a more assertive mindset to go with it.
Williams led Arizona in scoring at 15.7 points, rebounding (7.1) and shooting (57 percent), but couldn’t get the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament, ending a 26-year streak.
