Robinson, who played for former Texas Tech coach Bob Knight at Indiana, is heading into his sixth year with the program. He went in for a routine physical last week and was diagnosed with heart disease.
He played at Indiana from 1982-86 and remained in shape beyond his playing days. Robinson, who is in his early 40s, felt some discomfort after a workout last week, his wife, Tracy, said. That prompted the visit to the doctor.
Doctors initially believed Robinson needed a triple-bypass but entered a fourth artery during the 2 1/2-hour surgery Monday, she said in a story for Tuesday's online edition of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Robinson was expected to remain in the hospital until the end of the week, Tracy Robinson said.
``It was a shock to everybody,'' Tech head coach Pat Knight said. ``Especially with what happened (Sunday) to Coach (Don) Haskins, these things kind of put things into perspective.''
kins, a pioneering coach at UTEP, died Sunday.
