ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – New Mexico men’s basketball coach Craig Neal has received a six-year contract worth $5.7 million.
The school announced the new deal Monday that will keep Neal as the Lobos’ coach through 2020.
Neal became the Lobos’ head coach last year after Steve Alford left for UCLA. Neal led New Mexico to a 27-7 record and an appearance in the NCAA tournament.
He is the first New Mexico coach to take the Lobos to the NCAA tournament in his first season.
Athletic director Paul Krebs says Craig has done an exemplary job of coaching in his short time.
Neal was introduced as New Mexico’s coach in April 2013 after spending six seasons as associate head coach.
